In this example, the TA reader 1) concentrates on the paragraph’s main idea, 2) lets the student know he’s perplexed, and 3) follows up with a specific query.

(Note: At some point in the paper, the TA would also point out the writing’s patterns that need attention. These might include choppy prose and transitions that link one paragraph to another.)
