You goal is to help your students to select and use evidence appropriately.
- Show your class a strong student thesis (either photocopied or on the overhead or board); break students into groups of three or so to select specific passages that support it; then as a class, begin to draft a paragraph to demonstrate how to make an assertion, and cite and explain textual evidence. Perhaps have a volunteer write on the board. Follow up your citation demonstration by recommending students’ go to the UCLA site for undergraduates that engagingly discusses appropriate citation techniques and issues of intellectual property: Bruin Success with Less Stress.
